tHE bAY ThUS fAR....

So I realize that I've been here for almost a month now and have yet to share with you guys my experiences. I guess I'll start with my first impressions.

When we first arrived in sunny  partly cloudy Oakland, I loved it immediately--albeit I felt a bit deceived.  I came expecting sunshine, palm trees and warm weather but I was met with regular old oaks and the seemingly beginnings of fall (in July!). But I guess I knew that was coming, since it was the exact same when I came last  year--wishful thinking? Eh.

Other than the deceitful California weather, everything else was perfect! Growing up in DC, I was used to--and rather enjoyed-- the big-city life. I loved the skyscrapers, the restaurants, nightlife--you name it. I was also eager to move to somewhere the exact OPPOSITE of my alma mater city, Tallahassee--which was AMAZING during undergrad, but not a place I wanted to settle; although I do miss my "community".

Oakland kind of reminds me of DC, except it's on the west coast and there are random hippie sightings (especially in Berkeley) every couple of blocks. All in all, it's a pretty cool place. San Francisco (the city) is 10min from my house and there are ample thing for me to get into.

I even joined a book club :) --y'all knew I was a nerd on the low..

The first thing I did when I got here was get a real California burrito--which happen to be the BEST I've had EVER in my almost 25 years of life.
Burrito!

I also visited Jack London Square which is kind of an uber scaled down Adams Morgan (for my DC folk)

I've found a new home away from home (my house in Oakland) in Emeryville--which is only two blocks long but has a crap load of cool things there.

And I have so much more to see and explore. Keep you updated!

Peace.

I'm slightly jealous! I have been in DC all my life. Elementary, middle school, high school, undergrad, and even though I was in New Mexico for grad school, I'm back home for the next 18 credits online. I have tried to leave but I can't. I'm proud of you though. I think I have to get away from here if only for a few years! Enjoy Oakland!
