Now Playing:
Man don’t act like a (TRICK!)
That’s why I don’t got love for (TRICKS!)
That’s why Too Short and E-40 say (TRICK!)
So homie please don’t marry that (TRICK!)
That’s why I’ll never be a (TRICK!)
-Too Short ft. E-40 and 50 cent, Trick
I’m sitting on my porch, enjoying the weather , scrap booking and such—and this car rolls by blasting “Trick” by Too Short ft. E-40 and 50 Cent. Almost immediately—well actually it was very immediate—I jumped up off of the step and proceeded to dance my life away and sing it at the top of my lungs.
My temporary visit outside of my mind led me to writing another guilty pleasures. For those who have not read the first one, (Click here and come back when you’ve finished), it was basically a list of songs that I am ashamed to admit I love.
There’s only one on my list today, and it’s none other than the aforementioned,“Trick!” This-Is-My-Jam!! When this comes on the radio, my eyes immediately close ever so slightly, my arms shoot up simultaneously and I proceed to do this rock-bounce move that I have perfected for dancing while driving.
Now some of you may say “Rhonda, don’t you know how misogynistic, and degrading those lyrics are? How can you—the ultimate Hip-Hop elitist listen to that filth?” The answer is simple: The production is amazing, the lyricists (even though what they flow about leaves a lot to be desired) are some of the most talented brothers to hit the air waves, and lastly, it may slightly appeal to my inner hood rat…LOL. I feel a twinge of guilt every time this song comes on because of the message it’s sending (but what can you expect with Too-Short on the track). If only this artists could use those awesome productions skills to put out a good message….
To be continued… ::as I dance away from the computer::
